Recently, thePatient Compartment of Negative Pressure Ambulance — Technical Specifications (ISO/TS 17430:2025), the first ISO international standard for ambulances, was officially released, with China leading its development.

Negative pressure ambulances are important medical equipment primarily used for the safe isolation and transport of infectious disease patients, playing a vital role in the control of various respiratory infectious diseases. The Patient Compartment of Negative Pressure Ambulance — Technical Specifications(ISO/TS 17430:2025) outlines, for the first time, technical requirements for the patient compartment of negative pressure ambulances. These include sealing and isolation performance, negative pressure performance, ventilation rate, directional airflow, disinfection system functions, filtration and disinfection devices for the negative pressure system, as well as other related technical specifications and testing methods. The standardized technical specifications enable the compartment to deliver more reliable medical services during patient transport, significantly enhancing the safety, effectiveness, and timeliness of patient treatment in highly infectious environments.

As of now, China has led the formulation and release of 20 international standards in the automotive sector, with 29 more currently under development. Moving forward, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) will organize entities such as the China Automotive Technology andResearch Center Co., Ltd. (CATARC) to actively participate in the formulation and revision of international automotive standards. Following the principle of simultaneous research and formulation of international and domestic standards, they aim to further enhance China’s involvement and contribution to the harmonization of international automotive standards and regulations.
