From June 2 to 5, 2025, a series of activities for UN Road Safety Week was held at the headquarters of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) in Bangkok, Thailand. The Working Party on Automated/Autonomous and Connected Vehicles (GRVA) under the World Forum for Harmonization of Vehicle Regulations (WP.29), together with the Global Forum for Road Traffic Safety, co-hosted an exhibition and demonstrations for autonomous driving technologies and products. Chinese automakers in Thailand, including Changan Automobile, GAC Group, BYD, and GWM, were invited to attend the event under the coordination of the China Automobile Enterprise International Development Innovation Alliance. These automakers showcased their best-selling models to take part in both static displays and dynamic test rides, alongside international brands such as Mercedes-Benz and Land Rover. The demonstrations featured the latest autonomous driving systems and products such as adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, and automated parking. Supported by intelligent and connected technologies, these new models are aimed at offering safer, greener, and smarter mobility solutions for the Southeast Asian market. More than 100 experts from international organizations, including the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), UNESCAP, the International Organization of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers (OICA), and the European Union, as well as from countries and regions such as Germany, the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Japan, the Republic of Korea, and Thailand, attended the event to observe and test the new technologies and products from China.

During the Road Safety Week, the Department of Equipment Manufacturing Industries I of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) organized China Automotive Technology and Research Center (CATARC), China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT), and National Innovation Center of Intelligent and Connected Vehicles (CICV) to attend the 22nd WP.29/GRVA Session. At the Session, China submitted multiple proposals for revisions to technical regulations covering areas such as autonomous driving, driver assistance, and data security. CICV and CAICT also showcased their integrated “vehicle-road-cloud” solutions and application scenarios, demonstrating how these technologies improve traffic efficiency and road safety. China released two editions of the guideline for developing a standard system for intelligent connected vehicles (ICVs) in 2017 and 2023 to support ICV growth. So far, 78 national and industry standards have been approved or published, covering autonomous driving, connectivity and its applications, cybersecurity, resource management, information services, and automotive electronics. China’s active progress in standards, regulations, and technology applications drew significant attention from participating experts, providing valuable reference for the global development and industrial application of ICV technologies.
